NeLoC Partner Meetings in nearly tropical Turku
Turku provided a magnificent setting for the NeLoC project’s partner meetings on the 30 – 31 of July: the weather gods tried their best and the hundred sailing ships attending the Tall Ships’ Races coloured the banks of River Aurajoki by dressing their ships.
The purpose of organizing the two NeLoC partner meetings was to check on the progress of the activities, give an opportunity for co-partners to exchange views and make final plans for the rest of the project keeping in mind the forthcoming last six-month period. The partners also had a chance to present their achievements so far and discuss with other work package members.
In addition to NeLoC partner meetings the Work package leaders had their own meeting with the Lead partner, Centre for Maritime Studies of the University of Turku, to check on the status and progress of the project.
The NeLoC project has come a long way; already the third biannual reporting is at hand and there is only one more left to go. So far, among others things, the project has produced a draft comparative analysis of the planning methods for logistics centres. The selected planning methods are currently being verified in various case studies by project partners. The final outcome will be a handbook on planning methodology. The above-mentioned have been achieved in work package 1. In work package 2, the 1st edition of the Best Practice Handbook for Logistics Centres in the Baltic Sea Region has been published. It will be developed further and supplemented by partners. In addition, background information for the operation of the future BSR co-operation forum has been collected and analysed. The final editions of the above stated reports will be published during the fourth project period. In work package 3, the definition for the ICT concept has been made and a test server set up according to it. The system is now in testing. The NeLoC Portal has also been implemented.
